  'ANCIENT BUDDHIST SITE OF SARNATH' 45th UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE OF INDIA.  Sarnath stupa and Ancient buddhist remains inscribed as India's 45th UNESCO world heritage site on 25 July 2026 under name of 'Ancient Budhist site of Sarnath'.  'Ancient Budhist site of Sarnath'. Located roughly 10 kilometers northeast of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, Sarnath ranks among the four crucial holy sites of Buddhism, along with Lumbini, Bodh Gaya, and Kushinagar. Ancient Pali texts refer to this sanctuary as  Isipatana  (the landing place of sages) and  Mrigadava  (the deer park). It remains globally famous as the location where Siddhartha Gautama delivered his initial teaching after reaching full enlightenment. Marathwada region of Maharashtra has contributed a lot in the history of the country, many kings and emperors ruled this region and many important and Land forts that testify their history remind the tourists of India's glorious history. In this blog, we are going to travel to one such important fort named Udgir Fort in Udgir Tehsil of Latur district of Maharashtra, this fort was built by Chalukya Kings in the year 1347. But it got its real identity after the disintegration of the Bahmani kingdom after the disintegration of the Bahmani kingdom this fort come under Bidar state. Later in 1736 the Mughals took over it and later the Nizam of Hyderabad annexed it to their rule. 3 February in 1760, Marathas won their control over Udgir Fort by defeating the Nizam of Hyderabad in famous a 'Battle of Udgir' and it is said that this was the last major victory of the Marathas. After this, the Maratha army was badly defeated in the battle of Panipat.


 A fortification wall has been built around the fort and 70 feet high, then the same wall inside the fort is 100 feet high, a large ditch has been dug around the fort and was always filled with water at that time. Inside the fort, Khas Mahal, Rang Mahal, Kabutarkhana, many secret ways, Nakshi Mahal, Janankhana, many such buildings are seen even today. Inside the fort there is both a temple and a mosque, it gives an example of an old-time Hindu-Muslim brotherhood. Inside the fort is the mausoleum site of Uday Gir Maharaj, from whose name the fort and the city are named as a Udgir.
